Canadian Queer Studies group - what do you think? where do we start?

I definitely think we should start a Canadian Queer Studies group that creates a space for dialogue and presentations at CSSE. We should also connect with other queer spaces through women and gender studies, curriculum studies, and other institutes/special interest groups I'm unaware of. Peace, L

I also think it is a great idea to have a Canadian Queer SIG Group. The Canadian Congress is an excellent space and a queer sig would fit very nicely into CSSE. This would allow for greater cross-border dialogue and I’m sure would benefit both SIGs. I look forward to hearing what others have to say about this wonderful and much needed space and welcome anyone else interested to contact me should you wish to discuss this further!

Hi All - After discussions at UBC, the new Institute for Sexual Minority Studies and Services, Faculty of Education, University of Alberta will take the lead in contacting the CSSE executive to discuss a queer educational pre/post conference for Congress 2009! More details to come soon. Please continue to share thoughts, ideas, etc. For example, who would be a good opening speaker? What about a queer outing in Ottawa? Presentation from a local queer community group/youth/educators?

As I mentioned in a separate e-mail before, I wholeheartedly support the idea of having a Canadian Queer SIG at CSSE and I am of the opinion that a pre conference rather than a post conference would be best to capitalize on the momentum that comes with the beginning of a conference. Kris, since you are associated with the Institute for Sexual Minority Studies and Services at the Faculty of Education at U of Alberta, I was wondering if you could update us on the progress of the discussions with CSSE to get this SIG going. I am starting to think of a proposal and it is important to me to be able to visualize which SIG I would be directing it to. Thanks so much! P.S. I think a queer outing in Ottawa would be wonderful!

Hi all- it would be great to have a Queer SIG within CSSE. Are there any SIGS at the organizational level (that is at the CSSE writ large level as opposed to one of the other associations, like CAFE, or CACS)? I think it would be better if it were across the whole organization, but is there a process for that? Kris any word on the preconference?
