What do you think of the wiki?
Mar 10 2008, 6:14 PM EDT Thanks for coming to visit this site. Please poke around at the links on the left and post any reactions here so we can have a discussion of if and how this space can best be used by the Queer SIG. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: What do you think of the wiki?
Mar 11 2008, 4:52 AM EDT Way to go Rebecca for picking up this ball and running with it - thanks! I just finished checking out the Wiki - and it's really quite nice, and imaginably very useful - I think. I'm very curious to know what others think our 'function needs' are as an online community of professionals/researchers/scholars/faculty?? As you may remember - I've been posting recently asking folks about www.Tappedin.org (another form of online professional community, catering to Educators at all levels - over 18,000 members currently)- because it was brand new to me. There is a GLBT Group that exists in Tapped In - but it currently only has a handful of members and has not been active. If folks are interested, I'd like to change that... and back to my point of discussion. What are the relative dis/advantages of this wiki format over what Tapped In (or any other networking and collaboration format people know about)? As I can see - they do share several key functions such as a way for individuals to create their own "profile" page that tells others about them/their work, and allows people to "friend" each other which builds useful subnetworks... and easy ability to invite potential members... I'm no expert in all this techie stuff... though a couple observations come to mind: *Does the wiki have the ability to send out a message to everyone when there is a new thread or page posted? (maybe so, I just couldn't tell). I'm not sure how important this is, but it just requires posting to the Wiki AND posting to the AERA listserve for whatever one is posting. **Oops, the system just told me I can only enter a max of 2000 characters... so I'll be cutting off my posting here (just cut n' paste from my post to the list serve)... but something else to note - maximum length of messages. -cheers, Julie Do you find this valuable? |

RE: What do you think of the wiki?
Jul 11 2008, 1:49 PM EDT I think this is great to have our own space -- thanks so much Liz! I joinded Tapped In but haven't done anything with it so I don't know what the advantages/disadvantages are, but my sense is this wiki would give us more control over the content and ability to do whatever we wanted to do since we can add pages, etc. I would love to see this as a space to exchange ideas about research so we can collaborate and build on each other's research instead of operating in isolation (or maybe it's just me who feels isolated:) Do you find this valuable? |
